A UX audit template gives you a systematic framework to evaluate any digital product. This free 50-point checklist covers the six critical UX dimensions that determine whether users succeed or abandon your product.
Work through each dimension in order. For each checkpoint, score the item 0 (fails completely), 1 (partially passes), or 2 (fully passes). Tally your dimension scores and calculate an overall percentage. Any dimension scoring below 60% is a priority area.
□ Primary navigation is visible and legible on all device sizes
□ Active state clearly shows where the user currently is
□ No more than 2 levels of navigation depth for core flows
□ Search is available and returns relevant results
□ Back button / breadcrumbs work correctly throughout the product
□ Primary CTA is visually dominant on every key screen
□ Font sizes create a clear size hierarchy (H1 > H2 > body)
□ Color contrast meets WCAG AA (4.5:1 for text)
□ Whitespace is used intentionally to group related elements
□ The most important content loads above the fold on mobile
□ First-time users can complete the core action without contacting support
□ Empty states explain what to do next (not just "Nothing here yet")
□ Progress indicators are shown for multi-step flows
□ Error messages explain exactly what went wrong and how to fix it
□ Tooltips or walkthroughs are available for complex features
Continue this methodology across Friction Points (identify form fields that can be removed, loading states, and error recovery), Accessibility (keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, touch target sizing ≥44×44px), and Conversion Design (CTA copy clarity, social proof placement, trust signals on checkout screens).
